How to determine your ideal CBD dosage
There is no “one-size-fits-all” answer to the question of how much CBD you should take per day. Many factors come into play, such as how much you weigh, your body chemistry, genetic history, and your metabolism. On top of all that, CBD is “biphasic”—which means it has different effects on the body at different concentrations. This means that if you increase your CBD dosage level, it does not necessarily mean you’ll increase its effectiveness.
Because the ideal CBD dosage is so individualized, it’s up to you to determine your best dosage. The recommended method for this is called “titration,” which means starting low and taking small steps over time to determine the ideal dosage level. The rule of thumb is to start with a low dosage and if you don’t experience any change after a few days, slowly bump up your dosage amount.
While there is no set-in-stone starting point, most often people follow the recommendation of a dosage level of 1 mg of CBD per 10 lbs. (4.53 kgs) for low strength; 3 mg of CBD per 10 lbs. for medium-strength; 1 mg of CBD per 10 lbs. for high strength.

Mild conditions would encompass such things as wanting more restful sleep or improving your mood. Moderate Conditions include if you’re looking to reduce exercise-induced pain and discomfort, and feelings of uncertainty. Severe Conditions are more serious conditions that you’ll want to consult with your doctor about (or someone who has expertise in medicinal CBD).
If you’re new to CBD, once you determine your ideal dosage on the above chart, you may want to start with half the amount and slowly increase your dosage (if necessary) with the emphasis on “slowly.” Do not double or triple your dosage. It might not have any effect or even decrease the CBD’s effect and you’ll end up just wasting CBD.
Doses Per Day
Some people take one dose a day. Others take two or three doses (or more) per day. How many you take is totally up to you and your situation. The effects of CBD generally last between two and six hours. If the effect of the CBD wears off after a few hours, schedule two or more doses five to seven hours apart, so you feel the effects more consistent throughout the day.
Note: For maximum absorption, CBD should be taken with meals. High-fat meals have a greater absorption rate than low-fat meals.
Also, it’s a good idea to document your CBD usage. It will help you establish a CBD regimen and make you more aware of the impact CBD is having on your body.
The following are potential categories for your journal: 1) Date/time consumed; 2) Amount consumed; 3) Type of product consumed; 4) Therapeutic effects experienced; 5) Negative side effects experienced (if any); 6) How long it took for you to experience relief; 7) Your mood before and after use; 8) What you were doing before and after use. Also, be sure to document specifics of the label (batch number, serving size, full spectrum/broad spectrum/Isolate, bottle size (if oil); CBD (or hemp extract) in milligrams; ingredients list).
Finding the right dosage level takes patience, but the potential general wellness and health benefits are more than worth it.
